Got Home brew?
menaced817 asked:
I am wanting to start the hobby of brewing beer at home and want to start super simple with something like a Mr.Beer kit. I live in a small apartment and am wondering 1) will it make my apt stink and affect my neighbors 2) I read somewhere about placing the container into a thermocooler where I can regulate the tempature and at all times….any ideas or advice would be appreciated to utilize limited space

go to and go to drunkerds corner, they have what you want.
WOO HOO love home brew but it gives me a head ake yes it has a Major hum keep temp at 70 f all times and make sure every thing you use including the bottles are cleaned with a sterilizing agent this is important only takes one small corner to brew beer i used a closet follow the instructions to a tee and great brew will be brewing
I got a Mr Beer for Christmas a few years ago and was excited to try it. I made the American Pale Ale that came with it and followed the directions exactly. The flavor of the beer wasn’t bad, but not great. I was bummed because I was pretty sure there was little to no alchohol content of the beer. I drank 8 of them and felt nothing other than the urge to pee.
I tried a dark lager next. Same thing. No alchohol, and the taste wasn’t great. My final attempt was hard cider. Again, not great flavor and no buzz.
I didn’t notice any odor from the beer brewing. There is a pleasant aroma while you are heating the water and beer mix, but other than that, no smell.
hops smell good and flowery, and it dissipitates fast so i wouldnt worry much about the neighbors. not any stronger than cooking something with lots of herbs or spices. mr beer kit is what i started with too, personally i like the mr beer’s 2 gallon size vs the 5 gallon kits that are the standard because you can experiment and you dont waste as much if you have a bad batch. dont buy any refill packs though for the mr beer kit because the kit things they sell are cheap (actually theyre expensive) and suck, as the other guys said. they probably wont smell much at all either because they dont hardly have anything in them except sugar. the thermocooler is optional, thats more something you would use in a mash if you were doing all grain, ive never used a cooler before for an extract brew i just put it somewhere dark where the temperature is consistant. just watch the yeast packet and see what the optimal temp is for your yeast. if it isnt on there, they have a yeast chart at byo.com that has all that info
you can make better beer buying the ingredients seperately and following your own recipe for about the same cost or less than their crappy kits. you can get instructions at howtobrew.com, recipes at beertools.com and if you dont have a homebrew store nearby (most good sized cities have at least 1) you can get stuff mailorder from places like morebeer.com
