I want to get into home-brewing beer. What is the best way to get started?
memelnick asked:
Are there any specific books and/or kits that would be helpful and easy for a beginner?

you can by starter kit, it was big help for my Dad
non expensive one you can find at :
my dad used to make his own brews…i thought it was pretty cool
i know that you’ll need quite a bit of equipment….check out some books like “Home Brewing for Dummies”….their series of books are usually VERY helpful…you can also look online for pointers!
Have fun and let me know how it goes
I am a home brewer too. you should start with a kit. these kits provide everything you will need (software wise) to brew a nice beer. when you get more advanced you can fundraisers off the net or out of books.
Many home brewers find their way to the American Homebrewers Association. This site has many sources from books to suppliers.
Contact your nearest home brewing supply store, they will help you get set up for a start. If they start you with a kit, make sure you can use the material with further brewing.
They may have a posting board there also to pick up some used gear.
You just did get started the best way by asking. I like Papazian’s “New Complete Joy of Home Brewing” as a starter book. Before you get equipment, go to the Brew Your Own (magazine) website and click on “Reader Resources”. This will give you links to the advertisers’ catalogs. One of them (Brew by U, I think) used to give free shipping on orders over $100. Your first order can exceed this easily. I started with the Brewers’ Best equipment kit myself.
Eventually, try to find a local homebrew shop. Prices are comparable to what you buy online when you add in shipping and you get tons of free advice.
